Trump’s wall seems to be more important to the president than the well-fare of thousands of federal workers. That, right there, is an indicator that this shutdown may last longer than most have anticipated. In fact, it already did.

The second shutdown of the United States federal government in 2018—which has continued into January 2019—began at midnight EST on Saturday, December 22nd and has not stopped since then, due to the failed negotiations between the government and the house of representatives over making who should be paying for the Wall between Mexico and the US.
